No dents.
Maybe you shoulda kept your Saturn plastics department around after all.

I hope to buy either one of these or a Tacoma someday. Perfect for people like me that like trucks but don’t need them too often.

I’d second that. Honda reliability and sensibility? Check. Does not drive like a truck? Check. Is more of a truck than my 3-series wagon ever will be, despite my efforts to prove otherwise by transporting firewood, rocks, trash, bikes, skis, dogs, and the associated cargo? Check.

now they just need to make a “long bed” standard cab version and I’ll buy it.

Now there is a Marketing director earring his paycheck! I kinda like that this seems like it was done on impulse. Like they were bored in the office, saw Chevy’s video dissing Ford’s beds, and were like “hey we’ve got a mini loader some here. Tom head down to Home Depot and pick up about 50 of those blocks, and meet me in the parking lot in an hour.” It’s just seems much more honest than other companies professionally shot, and edited 5 minute ads.

I love how it’s not on a soundstage with “real people, not actors”, or done in a fake construction yard with a former NFL star...
Nope, just some marketing guys with a gopro and some bought-for-the-occasion work gloves, in a real parking lot, doing the same damn test.

Just posted the same sentiment as a comment. You’re exactly right. No sexy telephoto slow-mo shots, just the real deal.

Transverse V6, check.
If I’m owning a truck it’s gotta be for the long haul and that means fixing things every once in a while.
Fuck a transverse v6.

Damn. Like the in- bed trunk too- that is some damn fine space utilization. Now if only honda would make sports cars again I could start respecting them

Or at least fun small economy cars, you know what used to be their bread n butter.

You can’t work on a transverse V6?

Sure, it's a pain in the ass though.

2017 Ridgeline:
2017 Ford F-150:
Its just one example, i know, but let’s face it - most modern engine bays are no longer consumer-friendly.

It’s been there since the original. And can act as a cooler. Has a drain plug for liquids

That guy was an engineer, not a marketing guy, that's why it was coherent.

Ram...
Unfortunately I couldn’t find any actual underhood shots with the V6. Seems nobody really cares to take a picture of the actual engine when it’s a V6.

Yes both are clad in plastic and will be annoying when the tabs all break. But one has the accessories pointed at a fender and one has them pointed at a removable radiator (if needed)

...
Okay, you have a point.
![]() 06/16/2016 at 14:06 |

I disagree, it’s poor space utilization. They jacked up the bed floor enough to fit a tire under it, and added a plastic compartment so the space wasn’t completely wasted. Had the put the spare tire under the bed like every other truck, it could have been lowered a foot and gotten that much more bed volume.

I wonder how it will hold up after being exposed to the elements for 10-15 years?
![]() 06/16/2016 at 14:14 |

But its in the bed, so it won’t be so obvious.

It’s massive under their hoods, but it’s mainly to hold the Cummins.

I lol’d when I saw them wearing gloves to remove the blocks. Must be afraid of calluses.

Oh I just remember a interview at an auto show with him explaining the features of the Ridgeline. So I assumed he was more of a marketing guy, but engineer makes more sense.
![]() 06/16/2016 at 18:33 |

Well he’s probably the head engineer so that means he has marketing responsibilities, just like guys at other brands. I remember when the CTS or ATS (or maybe both) V came out, I read the same line over and over again in different magazines from the lead engineer.
While I have no doubt they’re actually engineers, they seem to be more managerial guys. The German engineering heads seem to be more engineers than marketing guys, which is kind of funny. They seem to not to believe in “marketing” the car, but rather point out the facts and that should sell the car.
I do like this Honda guy though because he does a nice job of balancing the German "Dis is how that is" with no personality really, and the American (GM/Ford) guy who uses marketing fluff terms.
![]() 06/16/2016 at 22:50 |

But Americans love fluffy meaninless marketing. Just listen to Trump give a speech or answer an interview.

And Americans buy it.
